Transformations
Today Mrs. Thompson taught you how to use miras. Tell me what was fun about them and tell me how they are helpful with transformations. What else should I know about what you learned?

I think the fun part was when I finally got to use a mira. They are just so cool to use. They are really helpful because they help you know if the object is a reflection but if its reflection doesn’t show up them it’s either a translation or rotation. We got to reflect a boy through a mira. We also got to reflect letters and our own name. Mrs. Thompson said the mira is the best at figuring out reflection. You can also send a secret message by reflecting the message onto a paper. :)
The fun thing about the miras is that if you place them on something and look through it you see a reflection of what you placed on it. One thing we did was get a piece of paper with a boy with a swing but he wasn’t sitting on it. Then we placed the mira in the middle of the swing and the boy so that we could see the reflection of the boy. Next we drew him on the swing with the help of the mira. They are helpful with transformations because you could place the mira between the items and see if they have reflected. Later on we had a sheet with three letters on each side with two sides. We looked at the letters and saw their line of symmetry horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.
These things were fun for me. When we did our names I liked the way they reflected with the miras. I also liked when we did the same thing with the letters. The miras are helpful with transformation because you could see the difference between translation and reflection. The other thing you should know is that you can do mirror writing with a mira.

The thing that was fun to me was that when you put the mira in the middle of something the thing that is on the left side looks like it is on the right side. Thre helpful with your transformations because it flips it for you and all you have to do is trace the other side. Another thing you should know is that the miras only work with reflection. You can’t use it with rotation because if you use it with rotation it would just be a reflection. You can’t use the mira for translation either because it would just turn out to be a reflection.
Yes that is true Mrs. Thompson showed us how to use miras in our classroom today. The fun part about the mira was when you put the mira between the letter then you see the letter on the other side then you trace it. We also used the mira to trace a kid on to a swing. I also learned that when you put the mira close to the letter it looks funny. I also love Mrs. Thompson because she showed us how to use the miras. I also love Mrs. Cook because she showed us how to do flip and translation and rotation.

It helped me with transformation when I drew the reflection I could tell it was a reflection but it would only work on some letters or pictures. Another thing I learned is symmetry. When we reflected the shape horizontally, diagonal, and vertically we checked if the letter looked the same. If the letter had 1 part of symmetry we would put the letter by the question if it had two we would put the letter by another question if it had none we would put by none.
The fun part was when we first got the miras and then she gave us a paper. It was a picture of a boy and a swing. But the boy was off the swing. Then she told us to put the mira to put in the middle of a paper. Then when we put it in the middle it flip (reflected) the boy was on the swing. That was really cool. Then she told us to draw the boy on the swing. She taught us the difference about flip (reflection), turn (rotation) and slide which means (translation). When you write your name and you reflect it and your name is backwards, then you put it next to a mirror the reflected one is written the right way and the one you wrote to reflect it is backwards.
I like about it when we flip my name. We put the kid on the swing. We made the letters with the Mira. We did 12 letters and it was fun. We draw the kid on a paper and we had a kid on one side when we put the Mira there was a reflection.
You can draw whatever you want with the mira . Reflecting, flip, translation, slid, turn and rotation gets stuck in my head so there for I learn the words. Flip is reflecting. Slid is translation. Turn is rotation. My favorite part is where we draw the boy on the swing.
I really liked having a teacher show up and show us how to do all these things with miras. We got to write our names on a piece of paper and then trace it on the other side. The funest thing we did was when we took a picture and redraw it. What was also cool was that we drew letters and then took the mira and drew it on the other side.
